Montanna is Metis (Selkirk Manitoba) on her mother’s side and British on her father’s side. She grew up in Regina Beach, in the Winnipeg Area, and moved to Victoria, British Columbia in grade 4. Montanna has lived in 18 different places in her life, but will always have a strong connection to Selkirk where her family and community live.
Montanna has walked in Indigenous fashion week in 2017 and 2019 and has done jewellery product shoots. She is looking forward to deepening her cultural connection through modelling and recognizes the importance of having representation of different types of Indigenous people and people of all ages in the modelling industry.
Montanna is a teacher, mentor, and basketball coach. She works as a mentor and role model for Indigenous and at-risk youth. Montanna leads by example and offers consistent support and inspiration as she shares her active, rounded life with young girls. These experiences offer her a valuable connection to her culture.
Montanna believes that there is always something to improve on and get better at. This year, she is aspiring to read 50 books all by BIPOC authors. She greatly values self-education and hopes to obtain a PhD focusing on understanding the social and emotional stress and anxiety aspects in children.
Montanna is currently reading Johnny Appleseed, by Joshua Whitehead, the first two-spirit author to win Canadian Reads. Some of her other book recommendations include Birdie, by Tracy Lindberg, and the History of Metis Culture “The Northwest is our Mother” by Jean Teillet.
